Early Settlers in Canterbury

We have been learning about the life of the early settlers in Canterbury, particularly the European settlers who arrived in the mid 1800s.
We have watched a video called "Colonial House" and are listening to the story of 'The Runaway Settlers" by Elsie Locke. We have found out that their life was very difficult in the way they travelled, the heavy clothes they wore, the difficulty getting food, the tiny spaces they lived in trying to get materials to build houses.
We created Dioramas to show what we think it would have been like for them. We created 3 different scenes, the trip by boat to Lyttleton, walking over the Bridle Path and setting up house.
