The Hexagons group were today learning an easy way to remember times table using known facts like 5 x and 10x.
WALT
use
times five facts to work out times six, seven, and four facts (using the
distributive property)

times ten facts to work out times nine facts (using the distributive property)
We really worked hard to sort this.
Here are some examples of how it works:
7 x 5 =? (5 x 5) + (2 x 5) = 25 + 10 = 35 (5 x 5 is the known fact that we begin the calculation with)
9 x 8 =? (10 x 8) - (1 x 8) = 80 - 8 = 72. (10 x 8 is the known fact that we begin the calculation with)
Try some of these examples using this strategy:
8 x 5
4 x 6
6 x 7
7 x 9
8 x 12
6 x 9

I found this strategy quite easy once I had worked out how to do it. It was easy to use facts you know eg 5x and 10x to work out more difficult questions like 7x9.-Chantalle
